in the pencil and graphite works on paper (2018–2022), the drawing begins as an even, diffuse weave of strokes that depicts nothing — a scattering of particles, like fog, dust or smoke filling the surface. out of that meaningless noise, an unexpected image reality slowly surfaces: shapes that appear in the irregularities of the structure and are carefully clarified, without ever dissolving the weave.
alban janson
alban janson, born in mainz in 1948, trained as an architect in darmstadt and karlsruhe and studied fine art at the städelschule in frankfurt. since 1982 he has worked as an artist — painting, graphic design, sculpture, film — alongside a long teaching career in architecture and design. spazio showed his solo exhibition graphit + tusche from 24 june to 8 july 2022.
