kanz is a design studio in venice, founded in 2014 by antonella maione and mauro cazzaro. its work ranges from the restoration of residential architecture to commercial interiors, temporary design and product design, and the studio sits in dorsoduro, on calle lunga san barnaba.
whatever the scale, a building or an object, the two work with the same experimental approach and the same attention to detail, to technique and to material. in product design they combine their own design work with a close collaboration with local artisan companies, which makes kanz an independent production.
the pieces with us are in borosilicate glass, made by hand in venice: vases, bottles, glasses and candle holders. small variations in shape, size and colour come from the hand and are part of each piece. in the iride series the bottom of each glass is painted by brush, and the refraction of the glass carries the colour up to the surface.
kanz has shown at collect at the saatchi gallery in london, at maison & objet in paris, at the london design festival and at the venice glass week, and in 2016 received the saga tv and saga shinbun prizes at the 113th arita international ceramic competition in japan.
