michael gaenßler studied architecture at the technical universities of munich and vienna from 1961 to 1966. from 1966 to 1968 he worked at studio luigi moretti in rome, then as a research assistant at the tu munich — first at the chair for design and spatial art (johannes ludwig, 1969–1973), then at the chair for design, spatial composition and sacred building (friedrich kurrent, 1973–1977). since 1977 he has run his own architecture office in munich, from 1977 to 1982 in partnership with theodor hugues. from 1982 to 2007 he taught as professor of design and building construction at munich university of applied sciences, and served as dean of the architecture faculty from 1998 to 2007.
