In June 2023, spazio had the honor of hosting the first solo exhibition of Munich-based artist and architect Nina Kirste.
Titled "sehen" (to see), the exhibition marked a defining moment for Kirste’s artistic career, unveiling her distinctive approach to photography as an exploration of perception, light, and atmosphere.
With a background in architecture, Nina Kirste’s work transcends conventional photographic documentation. Her images evoke an emotional connection with spaces, emphasizing poetry in the unexpected. By isolating details, forms, and textures, Kirste invites viewers to rediscover familiar places as abstract phenomena—imbued with the delicate interplay of light and shadow. Her pieces, at once quiet and powerful, resonate with a clarity that reflects her profound understanding of space and aesthetics.
Kirste’s artistic eye was shaped through her studies at the Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften in Munich under the influential mentorship of Prof. Andreas Meck (†2019). Subsequent experiences in Rio de Janeiro and New York further refined her vision, instilling a global perspective that defines her contemporary practice.
At spazio, Kirste’s exhibition presented a collection of carefully composed works—ranging from intimate small formats to large-scale fine art prints—that celebrated architecture not as a static object, but as a living presence. Pieces like „Looshaus I“ or „Golfo di Salerno“ encapsulated moments of abstraction, elevating architecture into something deeply human and ephemeral.
Following her successful debut at spazio, Nina Kirste has continued to gain momentum. Her eye has garnered attention, resulting in the current exhibition „Barragán“, at Galerie Vogt in Munich.
