studio von schoenebeck — from the studio

a munich-based collaboration between designer johannes von schoenebeck and art historian magdalena shterianova. johannes holds a master's in design products from the royal college of art in london and trained as a furniture maker in munich; magdalena, who comes from a film family in moscow, studied art history at ludwig maximilian university and directed several short films before turning to photography, curation and design. the studio works where those two biographies meet: conceptual thinking, executed by hand.

their pieces move across collectible design and functional art, and they tend to begin with a story rather than a form — memory, emotion, cultural heritage. the studio first showed at spazio in 2024, during creative business week under the theme how to co-create with nature, and has been part of the collection since.

master & margarita — two chairs, one union

master & margarita chairs

like its literary inspiration, master & margarita consists of two individual chairs that stand on their own yet complete each other: one has round, hollow legs, the other square legs that fit inside them. brought together, one chair embraces the other. the engraving turns the chair into a place of memory, devotion, and eternal return, mirroring margarita's search for the master.

traces — the table as a site of memory

traces charging plates

traces explores the table as the place where life gathers — where conversations unfold, relationships shift, and moments become memory. each stainless steel plate carries an engraved quote drawn from literature and from the studio's own encounters. hand finished to a matte texture, engraving by stencil, a limited edition of six sets.

tetris — kept from an accident

tetris candelabra

the tetris candle holders began as three rough prototypes from scrap wood, built on the eve of the kocherlball. guests started buying the prototypes straight off the table; the burnt-down candles had begun to char the raw wood, and the studio kept the effect instead of correcting it. solid beech in the japanese shou sugi ban technique, with aluminium inserts and details in red lacquer.
